"Try to be kinder. You have no idea people are going through."
Review:
Teenagers with talent and God complexes get scarier when it's meant in a literal sense as well. While the egos can be too much at times, Kieron Gillian does give us an interesting concept that is gorgeously rendered. In this volume, revelations and recaps are abound concerning the events of last issues and getting even more closer to the big reveal. With Laura...busy and Cassandra now part of the pantheon herself new human point of view characters are introduced in Cassandra's former colleagues trying to get more info on the Pantheon for a issue with rest of the book filling in more about the other gods back stories. Here we finally see more on the mysterious and tragic f*cking Tara along with a commentary on the various harassment and disrespect she's gotten even before the reveal of her godhood. As well as dark look into the cheery and bright Amaterasu's past and the inner working of the sleazy Woden who is not what he seems. Of course, there's the mystery surrounding why the caretaker of the gods is setting them up to fall which we are getting closer to learning as well as probably getting a special concert in future issues which are thankfully coming soon.
Overall, The Wicked + The Divine is an interesting read, both in the gorgeous visuals mainly done by Jamie McKelvie as well as the interesting concept by Kieron Gillien. I also apologize for not being able to cover the first two volumes as I've gotten the series at a point it was too late to bother writing about.
Recommendations:
A highly recommended series for the Adult shelves, maybe fine for some teens just be prepared for plenty of blood, nudity, and other graphic imagery as well as harassment and suicide.
