Ms Marvel Vol 2: Generation Why Review

"This is my city. My home. I know it inside and out. If the inventor messes with Jersey City, he messes with me. I can handle this."

Review:

G. Willow Wilson continues to hit in the right spots when it comes to Kamala Khan, the new Ms Marvel. Picking up from last volume we see Kamala work search for her first supervillain, The Inventor who is a clone of the controversial Thomas Edison...mixed with some cockatiel DNA in so much comic weirdness glory. Besides Ms Marvel's very first nemesis we also see her very first superhero team-up with one of her (and Marvel's) first team-up choices: Wolverine. Kamala also meets Medusa, Queen of the Inhumans, and learns her secret origin about how she is one of the many new Inhumans who were exposed to the Terrigan Mists. She also gets a new pet/sidekick in the Inhuman dog Lockjaw.

While the pacing in the first volume moved slowly, but with good reason, here it picks up a bit in Kamala tracking down the Inventor and discovering his plans, but still flowing naturally especially with the Wolverne and Inhumans guest stars being weaved into her story pretty naturally and not forced. The action and nerdy jokes aside, we see Kamala continue to discover the many sides of being a hero as well as personal moments: her friends and family being concerned and questioning her and a nice, uplifting talk with with her Sheikh at the Mosque. All in all, she continues to shine especially involving the final fight with the Inventor and the lead up to it which involved helping the manipulated teens in his plan.

Recommendations:

Ms Marvel continues to be not just a fun, hopeful YA book but a fun, hopeful comic for anyone. Definite choice for any library.
