"That desire to protect you may often blind her to certain realities, but there is no denying that she loves you with a power greater than any magic."
Review:
(Thank you for Netgalley for a copy)
Oddly Normal continues it's charming (pun intended) adventures of its titular misfit as she learns about her family history and new friends.
This volume doesn't wait to hit the reader hard with Oddly dealing with family insecurities which her aunt soothes away with showing her an actual bit of her mother's memory. The bulk of this volume focuses on Oddly bonding with her new friends and fellow outcasts, learning what makes them unique as well as alone in this magical world. There's even a new edition in this volume in a cute creature Oddly's friends give her as a present and serves as an interesting alternative to a traditional Witch's cat it seems. Along with the touching moments and world building the volume also gives us a hint of more trouble for Oddly later.
All in all, a heartfelt and endearing volume in Oddly's tale as she learns more about her mother's home world and hers family.
Recommendation:
Oddly Normal continues to be an endearing fantasy read for the younger crowd incorporating interesting elements from vivid art styles and as well as playing with mythos of classic monster tales such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
