"In order to preserve my dreams, must I now renounce the here and now, flee reality, and head off forever in search of lost dragons"
Review:
Dynamite's In Search of Lost Dragons is a gorgeous addition to any fantasy collections with its simple but nonetheless interesting concept of a reporter named Elian Black'Mor traveling across the globe to discover these lost dragons. The book's layout is like that of a journal or scrapbook of Black'Mor's journey around the world accompanied by his writings of the dragon, people, and legends he encounters as well as having stunning pictures to go with the story. Said dragon pictures rage from sketches that are lovely and detailed to the gorgeous painted versions of the dragons or "photos" as the book refers to them as.
The dragons themselves are all very beautiful as well as unique ranging from the classic European versions usually seen in western fairytales to ones that take look more like unicorns than dragons and ones that are based off other myths such as the Loch Ness monster. The dragons can also be associated with elements such as the traditional fire to water and ice as well as being different sizes, shapes, and number of heads.
The scrapbook layout not just has drawings and notes but collections of where Black'Mor visited such as tickets, newspapers, posters concerning dragons and other beasts, and more to give the reader a vivid idea of the travels in this unique world of hidden dragons and more.
Recommendation:
In Search for Lost Dragons is a good fantasy book for just about anyone, though its best place would be the YA shelves. Younger readers may also enjoy it for the many lovely pictures and there isn't much in graphic violent images but there are some creepy images and mentions of opium den. Not to mention, the details and stories would be appreciated best by older audiences. The book is in a way channels the dragon book aspect from How To Train Your Dragon franchise making all the more ideal gift for anyone who loves that as well.
Overall, a lovely enjoyable book that will be especially ideal for fantasy lovers, especially the dragon lovers.
